I have recently taken some interest in Jazz...i play some bass guitar so of course I am influenced by Jaco Pastorius...I am usual and avid rock/metal fan, but I love Jaco!! I really want some busy jazz tunes to listen too...what are some good jazz artists? I guess I'm leaning more towards jazz fusion too, so I guess bands that have that type of sound would be my preference. Latin, Rock, or funk influenced jazz mainly.

You should try the James Blood Ulmer lead band called The Music Revelation Ensemble. They are a very heavy and very progressive avant garde inspired fusion band.

I suggest starting off with the album called Crossfire. That album has Pharaoh Sanders and John Zorn playing on every other song. The playing is beyond busy, and its super heavy. Heavier than any of Jaco's music.

As you are a guitarist try out the following:

Wes Montgomery

Barney Kessel

Kenny Burrell

George Barnes

Tal Farlow

Hank Garland (Move - his only jazz album, but excellent) more notably famous for his guitar solos on Presley's earliest work and many other artists of that era.

Go to amazon.com and listen to the samples for the above artists.
