Does anyone else my age like old music (Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerlad, Nat King Cole etc)?

I'm currently going to university in Auckland, New Zealand and am 18 years old. No one I've met loves old music like I do. I tried giving modern music a go, but I just couldn't handle it.. I love the old 'good' music, where songs were made with wonderful stories, and every song consisted of a jazz band or orchestra. Beautiful music. The only person who shares the same tastes as me is my best friend Jenny, she is really wonderful. - It would just be nice to meet others!

So are there others out there who love old jazz numbers who are also similarly aged to myself? It would be awesome to hear from you :)

I sincerely hope not! All the old farts like me would have nothing to moan about.

Hi Kiwi. Why don't you check out The Queen City Big Band in Auckland, all young musicians who are performing the songs you will like. You could also join the Jazz Club in Auckland and that way you would get to met other like minded Muso's. This weekend is the Tauranga 40th Jazz Festival, you should be here!! It's been great

Great to see so many young kids are out there listening to this stuff. The music of their grandparents.

I hope it translates into some really good bands in a few years to come. Those bands and crooners in the 30's 40' 50's really new how to play and sing. They lived and breathed their music. Lots of emotion and feeling in there without having to be ear splittingly LOUD!!!

My dad loved Bing Crosby. I never understood Bing until many years later. He was great and was a big inspiration to the likes of Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Tony Bennet, Dean Martin, even Elvis to some degree. Check out female singers like, Billy Holiday, Pearl Bailey, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horn, Julie Christie etc., Lots of great big bands to be heard too, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Count Basie.

I'm 19 and I love old music. And yes, I feel the same way, I've never found someone who enjoy oldies music. I love to listen Judy Garland, Gene Kelly's soundtrack, Fred Astaire, Astrud Gilberto, Frank Sinatra, Beverly Kenney , I also listen to Lisa Ono, Beth Rowley, Michael Buble, Sting, Chris Botti, and Renee Olstead, they do really have wonderful music :)

This was a time when music was music - melodic, lyrical, understandable. I still listen to Sinatra, Bennett, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Stan Getz, Miles Davis, et al. Maestros indeed. Glad to know there are 18 year olds with true sensitivity to the classics and not the dumbed-down, garbled, repetitive crap that passes for "music" these days.

And I thought I was the only one. I love Frank Sinatra! My all time favorite song is Summerwind followed by Strangers In The Night. HAHA I seriously thought I was the only young person that still listned to him, oh i'm a 21 year old male.

YES!!!!! I am really into old jazz music! Sure, I'll listen to modern music, but nothing really speaks to me like old music. I'm in highschool, so you never really see that in people my age.

I do! I'm 26.

Also, listen to Jimmy Durante. He's similar to Frank Sinatra. :)
