I think one of the things about his music that set it apart from everyone else was that his songs had such a singable melody. That didn't and doesn't always happen in jazz as much of it will play the melody in the beginning and end with a lot of improv in the middle. (which is also good) He was also years ahead of his time with his playing style. He was really the first to take melodies up an octave on solos and he had amazing control over those high notes. He was a wonderful treasure.
