I remember hearing that a well respected jazz musician used to complain that young people 'didn't understand Jazz these days'. I believe this individual was saying this in the 1950's or 1960's and was complaining about the decline of musical understanding and comprehension. He claimed that the new generation didn't understand the suffering and experiences that were inherent to Jazz music. Do you know who this was?

Yes, Louis Armstrong said that.

I have heard lots of other jazz musicians say it also. I'm sure practically every jazz musician thinks that the general public lacks an appreciation for jazz. Louis was just the most famous to say it.
