I'll give you a couple of off-the wall ones ... try Eldon Shamblin and Junior Barnard who used to play with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys back in the 1940s. Wills played Western Swing, which is at the polar opposite from country, it's a genre of jazz. Powerful stuff. Look for a set of recordings called the Tiffany Transcriptions.



Also, a modern player no one has mentioned who's in the Django Reinhardt mode playing gypsy jazz, Stochelo Rosenberg.

I can't believe no one mentioned Bill Frisel or John Scofield. They are 2 of my favorite guitarists and they are contemporary. Mike Stern is a rocking jazz guitarist. His song Mood Swings on Upside Downside is sick!

If you're a Strat player into jazz, you should definitely check out Wayne Krantz. He plays a Strat and makes it do amazing things...

yeah i've got the same problem...its kind of weird but i get jazz inspiration from rock
